Drawing Units

See jchase123 answer below. If you want to change the units of a new drawing all you need to do is go to file new drawing from design and then in the dialog that pops up there should be a unit field where you can toggle the units. Open the drawing where it is needed to change the drawing units.
You can change more variables to fix the unit. Choose your base unit for this drawing that is the real world distance represented by one autocad unit. It comes up as 85 256.
The scale is 1 1 in the computer space. The autocad but not the autocad lt drawing units dialog box includes a lighting area where you specify the unit type to be used to measure the intensity of photometric lights.
